May 2009 - STEP Marketing Co-op and Incubator

Zehner Consulting has been hired by Stimulating Economic Progress (STEP), to create a marketing co-op and small business incubator in Wadena, Minnesota.

STEP is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing the disposable income of the residents of Wadena County. STEP has purchased a commercial building in downtown Wadena and is in the process of outfitting it with a functioning commercial kitchen. Zehner Consulting is tasked with the creation of a marketing co-op that establishs market channels for foods prepared by co-op members and communicates a strong brand identity to the marketplace for locally produced food. This project is being funded by the Central Minnesota Regional Sustainable Development Partnership.

In addition to the marketing co-op, a small business incubator will also be created. The initial incubator will consist of a 1) an entrepreneurial capabilities assessment, 2) a mentorship network, and 3) an entrepreneur’s “tool box” of financing, legal and management solutions. This project is being funded by the Institute of Cultural Affairs.
